CAPE GIRARDEAU, March 9, 2000
Mayor Spradling Speaks at Ceremony...
City officials and community leaders gathered today for the ground
breaking ceremony for the new Mount Auburn Road extension that will connect Highway 74
(Shawnee Parkway) and Bloomfield Road.
The newly constructed arterial street route will open up a
significant amount of prime commercial development property according to Tom Kelsey,
broker for Lorimont Place, Ltd. The area also fronts along Interstate 55 near the
new Highway 74 interchange. Kelsey said his company will have approximately 12 acres
of commercial ground along the new street, much of it with interstate visibility.
He has already been fielding some calls from prospects about availability.
The west Cape Girardeau location is near the Westfield Mall
and within the same general area as Staples, Target, Goody's, Sam's Club, Lowes, Circuit
City and Wal-Mart. Directly north of the site is the Doctor's Park Development, the
largest professional physician's complex between St. Louis and Memphis. City of Cape
Girardeau has been planning the much needed thoroughfare for several years and have
recently awarded the contract for construction. Road work is to start immediately
according to officials.
