Cape Girardeau will soon have a new
Social Security location according to a recent announcement by the
General Services Administration. They had been soliciting bids
from various contractors to construct and lease back to the government,
facilities for a new Social Security office building in Cape Girardeau.
The
new 9,738 square foot offices will be constructed on Cape Centre
Drive off South Kingshighway.
The
government's landlord, VerMaas Construction of Lincoln, Nebraska., will
be given a guaranteed seven years with the Social
Security
Administration as the tenant with an option for three more years, the
GSA announced.
The
land deal was handled by Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place,
Ltd., who represented the buyer and Brad
Haertling of River Realty, who represented the seller, Eagle Peak
Properties. The 1.7 acre lot is about half the
available land at the site.. It has been listed for sale at
$299,000.
Kelsey said he had been working on the project with
VerMaas as well as other bidders for the project for almost 12
months. A number of locations and sites were considered in the
selection process. It was his understanding that construction
would begin in the spring with occupancy within 6 to 12 months by
the government agency.
