Cape
Girardeau stamp buyers, post office box holders and retail customers
will have a new Cape Girardeau Post Office location in the very near
future.
The
Cape Post Office will relocate it’s retail operation from 320 N.
Frederick Street to Christine Corner, which is located at the corner of
Good Hope and Christine Street, just south of William Street and the
Town Plaza.
The facility is also just one block east of Kingshighway. The
relocation will be the first for Cape Postal customers in 38 years.
Structural
roof problems at the existing Post Office has necessitated the temporary
move according to local Postmaster, Mike Keefe.
The letter carriers had already been relocated to the regional
processing center on Kell Farm Drive, just off of Bloomfield Road since
January because of the roofing concerns.
Tom
Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd., who handled the
leasing transaction at the Christine Street location owned by the
Clybourn Company, said the new retail operation would consist of nearly
5,000 square feet that will be modified to accommodate their operation.
The construction work on the space has already begun and the
entire retail operation will be moved from Frederick Street as soon as
possible.
Kelsey
said Postal Service officials looked at several locations to move to and
settled on the space at 284 Christine Street because of it’s central
location, suitability for it’s operational needs and immediate
availability for occupancy.
