Nobbe John Deere Dealership Proposed new Facility to be Built on
E. I-55 Outer Road
Scott City will
welcome a new major business with
William Nobbe and Company’s
purchase of an 11-acre tract located on the East Outer Road
along Interstate 55 directly across from the Cape Girardeau
Regional Airport.
Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd. who
handled the sale said the Illinois based John Deere dealership
intended to invest several million dollars in a dealership
facility at the high traffic and visibility location.
The site is
directly south of Macke Farm Supply and located within the city
limits of Scott City.
The city and county will both benefit from both the
additional property taxes and ultimate sales taxes the business
will generate.
The company is
presently located at Old Orchard Road and Highway 61 in Jackson
and a lawn and garden retail store on South Kingshighway in Cape
Girardeau. The
company is a fourth-generation family business started in 1907
based in Waterloo, Illinois with other locations in Jerseyville
and Steelville, Illinois.
In addition to
John Deere, they are also authorized dealers for several other
lawn and garden equipment lines and farm and leisure products.
The company offers sales, service and parts for all of
its products.
Kelsey said it
was his understanding the company would build as much as 50,000
square foot of buildings on the 11-acre site including a 38,000
square-foot showroom, office, shop building with possibly a
separate 12,000 square-foot warehouse.
The company recently completed a new dealership facility
in Jerseyville, Illinois (shown in the picture above) and wanted
to incorporate a similar design for this location.
The property is
located in the Gene Rhodes Industrial Park and will be directly
on the new East Outer Road extension connecting the main area of
Scott City to the industrial commercial area.
This will be accomplished with the construction of a new
bridge to be built over Ramsey Creek in the near future funded
primarily by the State Highway Department.
Kelsey, who
negotiated with the buyers for several months, said the property
was purchased from the Gene Rhodes family in an area of over 500
acres of available development land that his brokerage company
has been marketing and selling for them within the last several
years. No sales price was disclosed, however the Lorimont
website indicated land in that area was priced at $50,000 to
60,000 per acre.
