CENSUS BUREAU TO OPEN OFFICE IN CAPE GIRARDEAU

New Census Bureau location in Cape Girardeau, Missouri

The General Services Administration has secured an operations office for the Census Bureau in Cape Girardeau.  Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd. verified that the governmental agency had leased a former retail space in the Shawnee Center development, located at 623 S. Silver Springs Road.

The 7,300 square-foot space will be modified into offices for the Census Bureau with occupancy expected by this fall.  Kelsey said the space formerly housed Station West, a home improvement retail showroom.  The development is a 36,000 square-foot neighborhood mixed use center and has a combination of retail and office tenants.

The location is near the Interstate 55 and Highway 74 interchange in Cape Girardeau.  Kelsey said it was his understanding this office would coordinate the upcoming census count for all of the Southeast counties of Missouri.  Work to transform the space from retail to offices and storage for the governmental agency is well underway.
