The
following is an excerpt from the July 1998 issue of Midwest Real
Estate News
concerning real estate news
in the Cape Girardeau area
Besides the excitement of Proctor &
Gamble's $350 million investment in a new factory, Mitch
Robinison, executive director, Cape Girardeau Industrial
Recruitment Association, says that several national corporate
warehousing companies are also looking at Cape.
Tom Kelsey, broker, Lorimont Place, Ltd,
proudly says, "Our commercial and industrial growth in the last
two years has been phenomenal. A lot of big box users like
Stapes, Target, etc. are recognizing cape as being a real
regional area that has a lot of viability".
Lorimont Place is involved in the
development of the 250-acre Six Thirty Industrial Park, home to
16 companies and where Cotner Electric, Elfrink Transportation
and Santie Wholesale Oil all have either buildings under
construction or plans to build. Kansas City-based Cohen-Esrey
is building a 48 unit apartment complex in the area of the
industrial park with federal and state tax credits and more than
$1.5 million in subsidized loans. Families may not make
more than $23,000 a year (60%) of Cape Girardeau County's median
income) when they move in. Kelsey, who sold the site to
the apartment development hopes it is the first of several
additional units to be added.
