One of Cape Girardeau’s larger west side
commercial development tracts has been recently sold according to Tom
Kelsey, President and Broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd., who handled the
sale.
Kelsey said the 11.74 acres located at Bloomfield
Road and South Mount Auburn Road was purchased by Mayson Investments,
LLC, an investor group headed by father and son businessmen, Jim and
Jeff Maurer, also operators of the Cape Girardeau based Rhodes 101
Convenience Store chain.
The developers have plans to construct a Rhodes
Convenience Store on a portion of the prime property.
Current development plans are to build an interior street through
the land that is bordered by South Mount Auburn Road on the east,
Bloomfield Road to the North and Interstate I-55 on the west.
The new street will provide for several sites for additional
businesses in addition to the convenience store.
The nearly 12 acre tract development, to be called
Cape West Crossing will have interstate and Mount Auburn Road frontage
that will be attractive to a variety of businesses including
restaurants, hotels, retail and office users seeking a high traffic and
visibility location in Cape’s growing west side.
Kelsey said he is already working with prospective
buyers and tenants for possible locations in the development.
The investment group is also exploring plans of constructing a
multi-story mixed use building to house both retail and office tenants.
The Maurer’s are also development partners of the newly
constructed 40,000 square foot Regent’s Parc building at 1610 N.
Kingshighway and see a similar concept on Cape’s west end also being
successful.
Kelsey said the property was formerly owned by Earl
Norman. Norman assembled a
variety of land parcels over the years including the recent purchase of
the corner 2 acres at Bloomfield and Mount Auburn. All of the existing
structures were razed within the last couple of years and significant
site work completed in 2007. Norman
also has land on the east side of Mount Auburn with possible future
development plans.
