RECYCLING FIRM PURCHASES JACKSON WAREHOUSE

1900 Lee Avenue, Jackson, Missouri

One of Jackson’s largest industrial buildings, well over 103,000 square feet has sat vacant and idle for nearly a year and a half.  However, all that will change in the very near future according to Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd.  Kelsey confirmed the purchase of the former Rubbermaid distribution facility located at 1900 Lee Avenue in Jackson by ISI Environmental and Recycling, a division of Inter-Rail Systems.  As many as 60 new jobs could be created by the acquisition.

The 103,450 square foot warehouse & manufacturing facility located on 14 acres is owned by John & Barbara Popp and will be used by ISI primarily for their recycling operation. ISI is a full service recycling company, which offers solutions for a wide range of materials.  They work with their customers to find long term, solid economic solutions to manage waste and recyclable materials including paper, plastics, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, nylon, cardboard and ferrous and non-ferrous metals. They work with many businesses and communities throughout the region in their recycling programs including Proctor & Gamble and the City of Jackson.

Mayor of Jackson, Paul Sander commented on the arrival of the new business, “We are very happy ISI recycling has chosen to locate in Jackson and welcome them to our growing community. By locating in this size facility, ISI should have plenty of room to expand in the future.”

ISI, presently has facilities on Industrial Fuels Drive in Scott City and two Illinois locations in Mounds and Cairo. Robert Jenota is President of the company.  Inter-Rail Systems have other company divisions including waste management, environmental consultants, transportation services and alternative energy solutions.

Mitch Robinson, executive director for Cape Girardeau Area Magnet, who assisted in the procurement of the new Jackson business said, “having this large vacant Jackson facility occupied will bring many benefits in new jobs and economics to both Jackson and the entire region.  Our industrial recruitment agency was pleased to assist.”  Robinson thought the company would start with 40 to 60 employees.

Kelsey said the large warehouse is just down the street from the Jackson Rubbermaid plant and was leased by Rubbermaid for several years as a distribution warehouse.  That arrangement ended about a year and half ago when the distribution center was relocated out of state.  The Lorimont broker who specializes in commercial and industrial properties did not disclose a sales price, but their website shows a $1,400,000 listed price for the property.  He expected the new buyer to occupy the building immediately.
