Southeast Missouri students (young and old) will soon have access to a new
$11 million dollar state of the art technology center as the school's career and tech
center nears completion on Silver Springs Road near Interstate 55.
This success story began back in May of 1997 with the Cape Girardeau Public School's purchase of 75 acres of
land. The property has been used for the technology center and the school's
new high school facility. Tom Kelsey, broker with
Lorimont Place, Ltd. handled the real estate transaction.
As the educational center nears completion, site work is well along on the
adjacent tract that will be occupied by the new 216,000 square foot high school. At
a cost projected at $23 million , the new energy efficient school will feature larger
classrooms, modern security systems, gymnasium space, large cafeteria area and fields for
both band and athletics.
Dr. Dan Steska, Superintendent of Public Schools said these important and
needed educational facility advancements have been only possible because of the support of
the community. The passage of a multi-million dollar bond and tax issue to fund the new
construction projects has enabled the school's building plans to become a reality on the
Silver Springs Road site.
