The Postal Service has expanded its carrier
facilities in Cape Girardeau with the leasing of an additional building
at 905 Enterprise. Tom
Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd. who handled the
lease transaction said the post office leased the nearly 6,000 square
foot building to alleviate overcrowding at the present processing center
at 475 Kell Farm Drive. Kelsey
said it was his understanding that a number of the mail carriers would
be relocated to the new facility right away.
Since January the Cape mail carriers have been
operating out of the Kell Farm processing center located off Bloomfield
Road. They moved out of the
39-year-old Post Office on S. Frederick Street because of an unresolved
roof problem with the landlord of the property.
Christine
Corner Retail Center
Kelsey
said that in March, he also handled the lease of a 5,000 square foot
center for a temporary postal retail center at Christine
Corner, located just off S. Kingshighway.
At that time the postal service completely moved all operations
out of the S. Frederick Post Office. According to postal officials,
negotiations continue between the postal service and the Frederick
property landlord in regard to the roof problems at that location.
It is speculated that nothing would be resolved in the matter for
several months.
