Cape Girardeau's newest high school is well underway at
Silver Springs Road and Southern Expressway in the city's south
side. Rising steel can be seen from Interstate 55 by passing
motorists. The high school is located on a 70 acre
parcel that also includes the newly completed Area Technology and Career
Center on Silver Springs. Tom Kelsey,
broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd. handled the real estate transaction for
both sites.
The 216,000 square
foot facility is estimated to cost $23 million dollars and is being
funded by a city wide bond proposal. The new facility will feature
state of the art technology and
energy efficiency throughout the building, larger classrooms for
instruction along with modern security systems for student safety and
improved supervision. Also included in the campus will be
·
Progressive
math, science, art, industrial technology, and writing lab areas.
·
Gymnasium
space and fields for band and athletics.
·
Large
cafeteria area for a closed campus setting.
·
Close
access to the Area Career – Technology Center.
Kelsey
said his real estate firm has other available properties in the general
area and the construction activity with the two school projects has
created additional interest in the entire developing area.
